Tremont’s Iconic St. Theodosius Cathedral Invites the Public to Its Annual Christmas Concert

Sun 12/23 @ 3PM

Tremont’s St. Theodosius Orthodox Christian Cathedral was built in 1911-1912, after the parish was founded in 1896 by immigrant Rusyns. They were one of many European immigrant groups to construct a spectacular religious edifice in northeast Ohio — and one of numerous such groups in Tremont alone. But St. Theodosius is particularly iconic, both for its architecture and its appearance in the 1987 film The Deer Hunter, starring Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep.

The church welcomes curious visitors at all times, but it’s really special when its cathedral choir presents its Christmas concert, featuring Orthodox liturgical music sung in English. Familiar carols to sing along with are also part of the program. There’s plenty of opportunity to tour the church and meet its staff and members.

It’s free and open to the public.
