Fri 8/3-Sat 8/18
Few rock bands have had such an instantly recognizable sound as Queen did. Formed in 1970, the band broke through with 1974’s “Killer Queen,” and its first #1 hit, the stunning sui generis “Bohemian Rhapsody” the following year. They continued to have hits and tour arenas until virtually the end, when vocalist Freddie Mercury, who gave the band much of its distinctive sound, died from complications of AIDS in late 1991. No, adding Paul Rodgers or Adam Lambert to keep going is not really “Queen.”
So in 2002, the hugely successful stage musical We Will Rock You emerged to give fans a heavy dose of their music, along with a fairly silly plotline. But you don’t go see the show for the plot.
Blank Canvas Theatre is presenting the Cleveland professional theater premiere of the show with an ensemble of 17 vocalists who will perform more than 20 of Queen’s classic tunes including “Another One Bites the Dust,” “We Will Rock You,” “We Are the Champions” and of course, “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
They’ll perform the show Thursday through Saturday @ 8pm and Sunday @ 7pm, through Sat 8/18. Tickets are $18.
