Ramblin’ Deano of the Waco Brothers Rambles into Waterloo’s Millard Fillmore Bar

Sun 5/27 @ 6PM

Dean Schlabowske aka Deano is best known for being a member of Chicago-based Americana band the Waco Brothers for the past 20-plus years. But he’s been around — since launching his music career in the early 80s, he’s lived in his native Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Austin, and done stints in many other projects.

Recently, following a move back to Milwaukee, he’s put together some solo material under the name Ramblin’ Deano. He says the material “reflects my feeling that, in our current political climate, there should be more ‘protest’ music, for lack of a better term.” He delivers his “protests” with a biting yet genial sense of humor in songs like “(It’s Hard to Be a) White Christian,” “The Fulfillment Center” and “The President Is Out of His God Damn Mind.”

He’s on the road performing these songs now, and he and his acoustic guitar will land at the Millard Fillmore Bar in the Waterloo Arts District in a concert hosted by Blue Arrows Records. Chicago band Rent Party will play following Deano’s set.

Admission is a $10 donation to pay for Deano’s gas and food while on the road.
