The Cleveland music scene has always had its fringe characters who don’t fit neatly into any particular scene. Raven Slaughter was one of those, flitting around the edges of punk, metal and hard rock in the ’70s, releasing one single “Headed for the Top/I Know Where I’m Coming From” in 1979.
Whether either of those things were true was debatable. He remained in obscurity, and he floated from Florida to Los Angeles and back to Cleveland, before leaving town again. Most of his friends hadn’t had much contact with him in recent years.
He was supposed to be back in town for a special Thanksgiving weekend show with some of the other characters who floated in and out of his orbit, including guitarist Snake Rock, Billy Morris of Kidd Wicked fame, Paul Michaels of the Adults and recording engineer/musician John Walsh. But word has come that he’s too ill to make the trip. So the others have turned the show into a benefit for him. Strychnine and Vanity Crash will also play. Admission is $10.
