Clevelanders who have visited the Robert Hartshorn Studio & Gallery in Tremont will be familiar with the work of painter Lila Rose Kole, who also works there and is almost always present for special events like Walkabout Tremont.

This month during Walkabout Tremont, she’ll be holding court for the opening of a solo show of her new work called Ways of Seeing: Reimagining a Sense of Place, her second Cleveland solo show, taking place at the Hartshorn Gallery.

Working in an abstract expressionist style in acrylic and mixed media on canvas and linen, she says the work resulted from a recent trip abroad that took her to 15 countries.

“After months of musing, images remembered are pouring out of me,” she says. “I am compelled to paint the essence of what I’ve been left with: memories translated into shapes, colors, and atmospheres that still resonate in my mind’s eye. … they are a collection of scenes that offer a truth of what memory really is: a reimagined sense of place.”
