The main mission of Cleveland Heights-based nonprofit Roots of American Music is to work with kids in underserved schools using indigenous American music genres to teach subjects like English, history and social studies. Many of the musicians involved play regularly around town in blues, bluegrass, country, jazz and old-time bands. So hosting a “Grassroots Bluegrass Jam” on the second Monday of each month at University Circle’s Euclid Tavern feels like a natural for them. If you’ve got a banjo or a mandolin or an acoustic guitar just itching to be played, come on down and join the pickin’. It’s free.
