Toronto-based quartet New County Rehab is yet another of those bands trying to rehabilitate the tarnished reputation of country music. Once the voice of the ordinary workingman (or woman) it’s now descended into shallow, predictable music for beer-drinking party animals.
New Country Rehab aims to make it real again. As their bio says, “New Country Rehab’s powerful music is full of love, loss, longing and joy.” Lead singer and fiddler John Showman, guitarist Anthony DeCosta, drummer Roman Tomé and bassist Ben Whiteley formed the group about five years ago to play music that delves into the spiritual roots of country as they mix bluegrass and gritty rock.
New Country Rehab will perform at the Music Box Super Club for one of their Lucky 7 nights where a $7 ticket gets you into the show and buys you a signature cocktail as well.
