The Akron Symphony is bringing in a special guest for their next program “Classic Valentine,” taking place at E.J. Thomas Hall, someone very familiar to Cleveland classical guitar fans. Jason Vieaux is an international star in the classical guitar community who has performed with dozens of orchestras, he studied and now heads the guitar department at the Cleveland Institute of Music. And now he’s one of the newest crop of Grammy winners, having just won the award last week in the Best Classical Solo Instrumental category for his 2014 album Play.

He’ll perform a piece that’s a cornerstone of the classical guitar repertoire, Joaquin Rodrigo’s Conceirto de Aranjuez. He’ll also join the orchestra for a couple of other pieces: Elgar’s Serenade for Strings in E minor and Falla’s El amor brujo.

To round out an evening of warm, upbeat, romantic music, the orchestra will also play the Overture to the Mozart opera The Marriage of Figaro and Mozart’s Concerto for Oboe in C major, with Terry Orcutt a soloist. Akron Symphony’s music direct Christopher Wilkins conducts the entire evening.

Tickets are $29.75 to $60.75.
