We’ve often shared with you how much we love Rachel Brown and her band of area roots music veteran the Beatnik Playboys. The sultry singer captures adds a touch of jazzy sophistication to music that’s rooted in honky-tonk, blues and the smooth but emotive Nashville countrypolitan sound of the late ’50s and early ’60s, best exemplified by Patsy Cline. There’s no backwoods naivete to her vocals or her tunes. She’s smart and experienced; she’s been around and it shows in her approach to her music.

She’s booked to perform at one of the Akron Civic Theater’s intimate cabaret shows. Instead of the vast regions of the rococo theater, seats are set up on the stage so audience is close to the performers, a perfect set-up to enjoy Brown and her band.

But seating is limited so hurry up and reserve you tickets. They’re $15 or a two for $25 “date night” special. But your date can be anyone you want — your best buddy, your brother or your mom.
