Bela Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta are both one-act operas on themes that are both fantastical and replete with dark psychological undercurrents.
The Metropoltian Opera is pairing them up on an evening that it will broadcast as part of its Met Live in HD series. Fames soprano Anna Netrebko sings the title role in Iolanta, while Nadja Michael (pictured) is the danger-courting wife of Bluebeard in the second opera with Mikhail Petrenko singing the title role in the two-character piece.
The all-new productions are directed by Mariusz Trelinski in the style of ’40s noir films; Valery Gergiev conducts both.
They’ll screen at numerous local movie theaters. Tickets are $23. Go here to find locations and buy tickets.
