British guitarist Albert Lee is one of those musicians whose public profile is low because he’s never been a fulltime member of a famous band. Lee was of the generation that produced Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix. Unlike them, he stayed in the background doing his thing. But what a thing it is.
As a sideman with a career stretching over 50 years, he’s played with Buddy Hollys Crickets, Emmylou Harris, Eric Clapton (who called him “the ultimate virtuoso”) and the Everly Brothers, all for significant periods of time. He’s also got a large catalog of solo records where he gets to show of his country-influenced rock & roll style. The latest, Highwayman, came out in December; it features acoustic versions of classic tunes like the Everlys’ hit “Bye Bye Love,” Little Richard’s “Keep A Knockin’” and the Jim Webb track.
He’ll be rolling into the Beachland Ballroom where talented local blues artist, singer/ guitarist/trumpet player Kristine Jackson will open.
Tickets are $25.
