Booker T. Jones, the Man Behind the Stax Sound, Plays @MusicBoxCle

BookerT

Wed 2/25 @ 8PM

Few names are more legendary in soul music than Booker T. Jones. You know — Booker T and the MGs. The Hammond B 3 organ player led the quartet that produced a string of instrumental hits in the ’60s, kicking off with their top 5 pop hit “Green Onions” in 1962. The ensemble’s distinctive sound became known as the “Stax Sound,” as the group put its stamp on records by artists like Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding and Sam & Dave. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

While the MGs — now down to only Jones and guitarist Steve Cropper — still play occasionally, Jones has kept busy performing with his own quartet and releasing albums like 2013’s Sound the Alarm, marking his return to the Stax label after 42 years.

You can catch this seminal player, whose sound is still influential today, at the Music Box Supper Club.

Tickets are $38 in advance $42 at the door. Doors open at 6pm so you can come down and have dinner before the show.
