Thrash Metal Pioneers Metal Church Come to @ClevelandAgora

Sun 3/8 @ 6:30PM

One of the earliest thrash metal bands, Metal Church out of the Pacific Northwest, never blew up like Metallica, Slayer, or Megadeth, perhaps in part because of frequent member changes. But during the ’80s, they were a reliable and welcome presence on the metal circuit.

Their self-titled independently released 1984 debut led to a contract with Elektra Records, which released The Dark in 1986, the first of four albums for three major labels, which gave the band the chance to do some significant tours and festivals before their 1994 breakup.

They reunited in 1998 for a decade, and then again in 2012, adding five more albums to their catalogue including last year’s Generation Nothing. The current band features founder/guitarist/chief songwriter Kurdt Vanderhoof and a bunch of guys who came in at the tail end of the 1998-2009 lineup (the band’s had two dozen members) including drummer Jeff Plate of Savatage and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

They’ll be playing at the Agora Ballroom.

Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 day of show.
