British vocalist Helen Welch has established a strong presence for herself in Northeast Ohio since she moved to Cleveland a decade ago.
She’s lent her supple, sultry voice to make local jazz ensembles and collaborated with a range of area musicians and ensembles including the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Akron Symphony, and Cleveland Pops Orchestra. She’s released a pair of CDs and produced numerous special shows. She’s also a voice teacher.
One of her specialties is interpreting the music of the Beatles. That’s what she’ll be doing when she performs a cabaret-style show at the Akron Civic Theatre this week. She’ll do her own take on tunes like “I’ll Follow the Sun,” Can’t By Me Love,” “Hard Day’s Night,” and “Here There and Everywhere.”
She’ll be backed by the trio of pianist Rock Wehrmann, bassist Bryan Thomas and drummer Mark Gonder.
The intimate, limited-seating set-up takes place on the theatre’s stage.
Tickets are $25; the “date-night special” offers two for $40. For reservations, go to the Akron Civic Theatre’s website.
