Peanut Shoppe

Akron is growing and changing all the time. New businesses take over, new apartments are built, and buildings are constantly being torn down to make way for the new. In all of this development, we forget to appreciate the locally owned, good old fashioned places that used to occupy our city.

Luckily, Akron’s Peanut Shoppe is still thriving today the way it did in the 1930s when it was owned by Planter’s. Located on Main Street across from the Akron Civic Theatre, it’s an old-fashioned treat shop with a huge variety of fresh roasted nuts and a dizzying array of candies, including sugar-free and special seasonal candies, by the pound or the piece. The walls provide a walk back through Akron history, with clipping and photos of events and people from the city’s past. Though this location is its third, it’s always held down a spot on Main, with all of its locations within a stone’s throw.
