Yo-Yo Ma is perhaps the best-known living cellist. He began racking up the prizes which launched his legendary career in the ’70s. But he’s one musician who’s not content to rest on his laurels. He founded the Silk Road Project in 1998 to create new music with diverse influences in collaboration with musicians from around the world.
The Silk Road Ensemble is the offshoot that transmits that work to the public. Since it formed in 2000, it’s involved dozens of musicians — from Ma’s ancestral China, as well as Korea, Spain, Japan, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Lebanon, India, Iran, the U.S., and many other countries. The ensemble will be at E.J. Thomas Hall at the University of Akron. Tickets are $55-$64. Order here.
