Amherst Historical Society

Amherst Histroical

The nonprofit Amherst Historical Society was founded in 1973 to preserve the history of this Lorain County town and its surrounding area and to educate citizens about its past, including through programs in area schools as well as public programs and events. It’s located at the Sandstone Museum Center, a six-acre historical site, where it is saving and restoring 19th-century sandstone buildings and a rare wooden water tower. Nearly a dozen historic buildings are available for tours, including an octagonal barn, a chapel, a blacksmith shop and an art gallery, and several are also available for rental for weddings and other special events.
