Apollo’s Fire Countryside Concerts Have a Spanish Flavor

Thu 6/5-Sat 6/7 @ 7:30PM

Sat 6/7 & Sun 6/8 @ 3:30PM

Mon 6/9 @ 7:30PM

Each summer, Cleveland’s baroque chamber orchestra, Apollo’s Fire, takes its music outside into a more informal setting with its annual Countryside Concerts.

This year, they’re again taking place at the beautiful Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, where they’ll perform five shows over four days. There they’ll perform a version of the music they recently took to a Puerto Rican festival and played at a couple of indoor venues in NE Ohio. The all-instrumental version of ¡HISPANIA!, created by the ensemble’s founder/artistic director Jeannette Sorrell, explores the influence of Arab-infused flamenco on Spanish baroque composers such as Diego Ortiz, Gaspar Sanz, and Santiago de Murcia.

Ten musicians will perform including flamenco specialist, Mexican-American guitarist Jeremías García, violinists featuring Alan Choo and Emi Tanabe; guitarist William Simms; and viola de gamba players René Schiffer and Rebecca Landell.

If outdoors isn’t your thing, they’ll also perform the program at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ on Monday June 9 @ 7:30pm
