Of Rural Towns & Wineries
Forget California — Ohio is a fine wine producer in its own right. Just travel east of Cleveland and you’ll encounter acres upon acres of vineyards in Ashtabula County. Many of these wineries include restaurants with expansive verandas, allowing you to sit out in the country and sip from your glass while watching the sunset. Other wineries are more simple mom-and-pop operations where you can speak to the people in charge.
Aside from wineries, Ashtabula County is the “covered bridge capitol of the world,” with 16 new and historic covered bridges dotted throughout the county. Ashtabula Harbor is a mix of small town quaintness, lake industry and scenic viewpoints. And, if it’s summertime, you can’t forget Geneva-on-the-Lake, a Coney Island-esque strip of biker bars, arcade games, mini golf, rides, go-karts, cottages and the retro Eddy’s Grill.
