Big Wheels Keep On Turnin’ at Ohio Bike Week in Sandusky

Motorcycle

Thu 5/27-Sun 6/5

Remember the Marlon Brando drama The Wild One, about a biker gang that takes over a whole town? Back in the 1950s that was considered a bad thing. But at Ohio Bike Week, it’s an annual opening-to-summer ritual in Sandusky.

Ohio Bike Week is two weekends and days in between, beginning on 5/27, that turn the resort town into the next best thing to Sturgis, South Dakota – although, with sponsors such as Progressive and the Ohio Lottery on board, hardly as Sons of Anarchy-tastic. It’s truly a high-gear hog-heaven for the motorcycle enthusiasts with Harley-Davidson tie-ins, block parties, concerts, poker runs, beer tastings, charity fundraisers, leather crafts, classic biker cinema revivals, swap meets/gear sales and bikini contests.

(And it has been observed that the average Hells Angel, underneath it all, is pretty close to a conservative Republican, so expect as many Trump T-shirts as the RNC. But likely better manners)

Bands playing include Black Widow (voted best band in Buffalo), Jackyl, Disco Inferno, Ekoostik Hookah, Montgomery Gentry, Armstrong Bearcat, Broken Spoke Saloon, Mustang Sally, the Jasmine Caine Band and more, at venues ranging from the Erie Fairgrounds to along Columbus Avenue and Shoreline Drive. A massive parade takes place at noon on Sat 6/4.

Many events are free, but many are also ticketed; a $150 pass offered on the website allows blanket admission to everything. And, yes, Cedar Point has discount tie-ins. Don’t forget to tell ‘em Eric Von Zipper sent you.
