Sax/flute player Rob Williams arrived in Cleveland from California and became an integral part of this area’s music scene in the ’80s when he hooked up for a time with hugely popular local rock/reggae band First Light.
Later he formed ACO — the Afro-Cleveland Orchestra — which blended jazz, blues, R&B, funk and other styles. They were regulars at the Grog Shop back in the ’90s, when they hosted musician-oriented night; they still occasionally re-surface there from time to time doing a reunion show.

One of those times is coming up. They’re declaring it “Rob Williams Appreciation Night,” paying tribute to the musician who has been part of many local jazz, blues and rock ensembles as well as an educator with the nonprofit Roots of American Music. Admission is $10.
