You have undoubtedly heard the nonsense being spewed by some presidential candidates about Muslims, ranging from only allowing certified Christian immigrants into the country to closing or at least putting under surveillance every mosque in the U.S. Sadly, this type of bigotry, underpinned by ignorance, is widespread — even liberal Cleveland Heights had a (losing) city council candidate last fall promoting the idea that Muslims are our “enemy.”
Cleveland Peace Action is taking steps to hopefully overcome some of that ignorance and misunderstanding. They’re inviting Clevelanders to join them this month at the Islamic Center of Cleveland in Parma (pictured) to learn what Muslims actually believe and their religious practices, family life and social life actually involve. The Center holds a free introductory class every Tuesday, open to all who are genuinely curious.
