Fri 12/18 @ 8PM

Sat 12/19 @ 10AM-noon

Pakistani/Chilean guitarist Fareed Haque is known for the range of his musical command, encompassing classical, world music and jazz styles. The 52-year-old performer/educator has been an active part of Chicago’s vibrant music scene for decades as well as a professor at Northern Illinois University. He’s toured extensively with Cuban reeds player Paquito D’Rivera and recorded for Sting’s label. (He’s also performed with Sting on several occasions). This eclectic musician even has a toe in the jam band scene, having formed and toured with his own jam band, Garaj Mahal, for a decade. More recently he has been branching out into electronic music.

This master of multiple styles will be performing at the new Heights Music Shop in Cleveland Heights in a performance co-sponsored by Nighttown, where he’ll show off his skills on both guitar and Moogtar, accompanied by Alex Austin on electric upright bass and Greg Fundis on drums.

The following morning he’ll conduct a clinic at Heights Music Shop where he’ll reveal the magic secrets behind his skills. No, actually, he’ll probably tell musicians what my former guitar teacher told crestfallen would-be hotshots: set aside a regular time for methodical practice.

Tickets for the concert are $20. The clinic and show together are $35; the clinic alone is $25. Advance tickets are available at Heights Music Shop, or at the door, but capacity is limited. So it might be a good idea to stop by the store and pick them up; they’re available only in person.
