VIDEO: Sneak Peek of New Hilton Cleveland Downtown at the Convention Center Featuring Cleveland Artists

Accessible via underground walkway to the Cleveland Convention Center, the new Hilton Cleveland Downtown will boast 600 guest rooms, making it the largest hotel in the region. The hotel offers 46,000 square feet of meeting space in two large ballrooms named after Cleveland bridges: the Hope and the Superior. The hotel will open in June of 2016 in time for the Republican National Convention. It sits on the former site of Cuyahoga County’s administrative headquarter offices, which have moved their 600 employees to East 9th & Prospect.

Name-checking Cleveland’s most famous lawman, Eliot’s Lobby Bar overlooks the grand stairway and hotel reception. Bar 32 is open to the public on the 32nd floor and will offer stunning views and a sky-high outdoor terrace.

An as-yet-unnamed Cleveland chef will commandeer the 3-level Burnham restaurant with upscale, casual and grab-and-go specialties.

The layout of the grid, cornice lines and the limestone exterior of the first five floors of the hotel will complement the Group Plan designed by Daniel Burnham.

Cuyahoga County put out an RFP for consultants and Kalisher was selected to curate the art and artists whose work will be featured throughout the hotel project.

A dozen Cleveland-area artists were commissioned to offer designs for headboards in guest rooms and suites, including Don Harvey, Paul Duda, Barbara Merritt, Eric Drost, Stewart Pearl, Garrett Weider, and others.

The work of Vicktor Schrekengost can be found onsite. One of his works will be featured as a guest room headboard, and photos of his “Jazz Bowl” will be reproduced in large scale in Eliot’s lobby bar.

The Hilton Cleveland Downtown is now accepting reservations for large groups, weddings and meetings for July 2016 and beyond. Interested? Contact Ronnie Collins, director of sales & marketing at 440-241-7671.

CoolCleveland readers have an opportunity to include a photo of themselves as one of 3000 images making up a larger mural that will be installed in the corridor leading from the hotel to the Convention Center. Those who submit any photo of themselves or families will become eligible to win a free weekend stay at the hotel, and their photo may become part of the permanent art collection in the hotel.
