The 11th District Congressional Parade on Kinsman Is a Labor Day Tradition

Mon 9/7 @ 11AM

The annual 11th Congressional District Community Labor Day Parade in the Kinsman neighborhood is part of a long tradition begun by former Congressman Louis Stokes, who died August 18 at the age of 90. It’s been continued by his successors, Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who passed away in 2008 at the way-too-young age of 58 and her successor and current congresswoman, Marcia Fudge.

The enormous parade, which starts on Kinsman past E. 160th Street and ends up at Luke Easter Park at E. 116th Street, brings together labor union delegations, community groups, city agencies, fraternal organizations, businesses, high school bands, drill teams, dance ensembles and of course politicians and elected officials, all armed with candy for the thousands of kids that line the route.

Expect many of those elected officials to join Fudge on the reviewing stand when the parade reaches the park. And many of the marchers will hang around and have their own picnics.
