Learn About a New Approach to Experimental Music at Lecture in a Bar @Mahalls20Lanes

Tue 9/8 @ 8PM

Are you up for stretching your mind on a Tuesday night instead of sitting at home watching bad TV and watching it shrink?

Head on down to Mahall’s 20 Lanes for a “Lecture in a Bar.” Don’t expect a standard “lecture” though, as in a guy standing in front of the room and droning on and on. Nick Traenkner is billed as “Cleveland’s foremost Dadaist lecturer” and his presentation, titled “Beyond Flesh And Clay: ACH+ And Similar Languages For Animation of Inanimate Performance Objects,” is called “an absurdist sketch,” so you know it’s going to be a lot more freewheeling and challenging than that.

“Nick will be addressing the use of intent and composition in experimental music through the vehicle of the pseudo-language ACH+,” says the event promotion. “He will be referencing several luminary artists who have used this strange language and their approaches to performance and composition in a presentation sure to delight those with inquiring minds, an appreciation for the absurd and a sense of humor.”

Doors open at 8; the presentation starts at 8:30pm. And speaking of experimental music, afterward, around 10pm, there will be an electronic jam — bring your synths, electronic and amp if you want to participate.

“We’re all going to plug in freeform style,” says Lisa Miralia, host of WCBS 89.3FM freeform/experimental radio show The Mysterious Black Box (Wed 7-9pm), which is co-sponsoring the evening’s event. “Jump in and out as you’re feeling it. Come help turn the locker room into an electronic time lord!”

It’s free although donations for the lecturer will be gratefully accepted.
