Akron native Ernie Smith has been an important part of the area music scene, playing in such noted bands as In Fear of Roses in the ’90s.
Now based in Virginia, Smith and his wife Heather are filmmakers. Christine at the Crossroads is the second feature film from their production company Skelly Films, after more than a dozen short projects in the last six years. In the film, which they debuted publicly last fall, the title character falls in love with a co-worker, raising issues about her repressed sexuality. The filmmakers say it’s their most personal work, drawing on the experiences of family and friends.
Christine at the Crossroads will screen at Akron downtown music venue Jilly’s Music Room. Babies in Black, the local ’50s- and ’60s-influenced pop duo of Beth Hiser and Rachel Roberts, will perform before the film from 6-8pm; the film screens at 8:30pm.
There’s no cover.

Never thanked you for this shout out. We are screening again on August 29th at the Indie Gathering Film Festival in Hudson, where we took 2nd in the Romance/Drama Feature category. If you’d be interested in reviewing the film before that fest I’d be happy to send you a screener.
