Marin Marais and Antoine Foqueray were roughly contemporary French baroque virtuoso viola de gamba players and composers. Their differing musical personalities, however, have led Cleveland chamber ensemble Les Délices to call a program based on their music “The Angel & the Devil.”
Emily Walhout and Josh Lee will be featured on violas de gamba, with Michael Sponseller on Harpsichord, Debra Nagy and Kathryn Montoya on oboes, and Julie Andrijeski & Scott Metcalfe on violins. The program will also feature pieces by other French baroque composers such as François Couperin.
They’ll perform it at the William Busta Gallery on Saturday and Plymouth Church UCC on Sunday. Tickets are $25-$35 in advance, $30 at the door.
In addition, the group will play a version of the program at the Hudson Library (96 Library Street) on Thursday and a family concert at Plymouth Church UCC Saturday afternoon. Both those concerts are free.
