Akron’s Angie Haze is a self-styled “gypsy,” cultivating a bohemian image with her flowing garments and ankle bells. She describes her band, the Angie Haze Project as a “gypsy/cabaret/folk band.” Their music combines soul, jazz, blues, folk, rock, cabaret and world music influences as Haze and her fellow musicians grab whatever instrument suits the occasion to enhance her rich, dark vocals.
There’s no set lineup to the band, which could include any number of her talented friends from the Akron-area music scene including David Mayfield of the David Mayfield Parade, who produced the Angie Haze Project’s album of last year, Heat to Cold. (Haze returns the favor by lending her multi-instrumental talents to the Parade).
The Angie Haze Project will be playing one of the Akron Civic Theatre’s intimate cabaret shows where the audience is onstage with the performers. Local musician Brian McCoy, who calls himself the HurdGurdler and plays the hurdy-gurdy, opens. Tickets are $15 or two for $25.
