Loud Bands Help @NowThatsClass Celebrate Eight Years in Business

Spunky little underground clubs that book noisy bands the vast majority of music fans have never heard of come and go.

Now That’s Class appears intent on ignoring the “go” part. The little venue near the Cleveland/Lakewood border is celebrating its eighth anniversary this week. It’ll do so with a free show featuring Parma metal veterans Schnauzer, along with Punching Moses and Mexican Coke, a skate jam in the showspace and Grady’s Wing Easy out in the back of the building.

Combining a D.I.Y. attitude with more stable booking, business and promotion practices than a pop-up venue, the club has hosted several thousand bands that sprung from punk rock soil and took the music in a multitude of directions. On any given night, you might hear punk, metal, noise, punk/folk, punk/country or even punk/disco. It’s booked bands from all over the world and developed a stable of Cleveland bands who have become regulars.

It’s also one of the area’s most eclectic venues despite its small size. It books comedy, burlesque and dance DJS and hosts game-watch nights. On top of everything, it serves cheap but interesting food: Mexican specialties from Orale and vegan (as well as non-vegan) food to go with that beer you ordered from its long list of both microbrews, imported beers and plain old Rolling Rocks and Buds.

Here’s to another eight years — and more!
