French/Dominican gypsy jazz singer Cyrille Aimee sings like a wisp of wind, curling around her tunes with a supple ease and a delicate, air-filled tone that ingratiates itself effortlessly. After growing up in France and travelling a bit, she ended up in New York by the late ’90s, but continues to perform internationally, mixing classic jazz, Django Reinhardt-influenced gypsy jazz and Brazilian influences.
Aimee has become quite a favorite in the area from her multiple performances at Nighttown, where she’ll be performing this week, often with Brazilian guitarist Diego Figueiredo. (He’ll be there too). But she’s adding a new stop to her northeast Ohio itinerary, Blu Jazz Akron, which opened last fall. So you’ve got multiple chances to catch her.
Tickets to all shows (she’s doing two sets in Akron) are $25.
