Two Free Concerts @Quire Cleveland Feature Medieval to Modern Music

Fri 2/27 @ 7:30PM

Sat 2/28 @ 7:30PM

Cleveland-based vocal ensemble Quire Cleveland has appropriately picked two churches as the venues for its upcoming program The Song of Songs: Choral Settings From Medieval to Modern.

What connects the pieces on the program is that all are choral settings of texts from the Bible, by composers like 18th-century American William Billings, 16th-century Renaissance Italian Palestrina and 20th-century British-Canadian Healey Willian. And the group will sing in Latin, Hebrew, German, English and Danish, demonstrating the vast range of ways composers have approached the texts.

Toronto Consort director David Fallis (pictured) is the guest conductor for the program, which will be performed at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on Friday, and at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church on Saturday.

The concert is free; a freewill offering will be taken.
