Blue Sky 5 Pays Tribute to Count Basie Small Groups @BluJazzAkron

BlueSky5DanielBeck

Fri 2/27 @ 8PM

Craig Gildner & the Blue Sky 5 out of the Washington D.C. area are yet another outcropping of the lively swing revival, still in progress.

While many neo-swing bands take a poppier approach, digging into the late 40s/early 50s jump blues/pre-rock era, the Blue Sky 5 stays closer to swing jazz, pulling its repertoire from the period when big bandleaders like Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman were transitioning to smaller ensembles. The group completes the effect with vintage outfits and instruments to truly take the audience back to another era.

When they come to Blu Jazz Akron, they’ll be paying tribute to Count Basie’s small jazz ensembles. And they’ll be joined by Cleveland’s Get Hep Swing dancers to provide a finishing touch.

Tickets are $16.
