Shawn Brewster is the long-time songwriter/frontman for Cleveland folk rock ensemble Oldboy. Shelby Sangdahl is a college sophomore who started dropped in at local music gigs nearly two years ago and inviting herself and her cello to join bands. Don’t you wish you had that nerve when you were her age!
But she’s added a new level of sound to Oldboy as well as Maura Rogers & the Bellows. Now, because it seems like dedicated musicians can never be too busy, she and Brewster have formed a spinoff project called Shawn & Shelby, which plays acoustic originals and arrangements of cover tunes. And they’ve already done enough recording to release an EP, which they will do this weekend at the Happy Dog at the Euclid Tavern.
