Would you rather listen to real musicians perform Handel’s Messiah than contribute your own shaky vocals? Amidst all the Messiah community sings, Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland’s baroque orchestra, will again the whole oratorio (most of the “sings” hit only the most familiar parts) performed by topnotch professional players and vocalists.

The group’s music director Jeannette Sorrell will lead the ensemble and the 16-voice Apollo Singers, which will feature four soloists familiar to the group’s audiences: soprano Meredith Hall, mezzo-soprano Amanda Powell, tenor Ross Hauck, and baritone Jeffrey Strauss.

Apollo’s Fire has been performing the piece for 17 years so their version is a well-honed masterpiece.

They’ll perform a full-length two-and-a half-hour version Thursday at Trinity Cathedral and Friday and Saturday at First Baptist Church in Shaker Heights. They’ll do a slightly shorter two-hour version for the Sunday matinee at St. Mary of the Falls in Olmsted Falls, and a two-and-a-quarter-hour edit Monday evening at Fairlawn Lutheran Church in Akron. A musician from the group will do a short talk one hour before each performance.

Tickets are $25-$70.
