With the post-New Year’s doldrums making pickings slim for those who like to go out, the Grog Shop is treating area music fans to some free local music this weekend.
Tonight that music is going to be very loud and very aggressive. Topping the bill is the clangorous All Dinosaurs, who’ve been rattling rafters in the area since 2009 with a bludgeoning sound that recalls some of the heavy, noisy underground gods of the ’90s. They’ll be joined by Queen of Hell, which started as a heavy metal parody for the Lottery League last spring. It went over so well they’re kept it going.
Also on the bill are two new local bands worth checking out. False Flag is sort of supergroup of well known local underground rockers: bassist John Kalman (Roue, Founding Fathers), drummer John Panza (Blaka Watra), and guitarist Aaron Koonce (The Conservatives, Ohio Civil War). Gypsyspyt describes themselves this way: “3 hot witches conjure black magic doom rock.” Even without hearing any music we’d have to say that sounds, um, interesting.
