In the mid ’00s, the Rhondas — a smart, sassy and ultra-accomplished alt-country trio of women from Akron — were dazzling ears around the region.
When they splintered, it wasn’t because they didn’t get along or run out of musical ideas. Instead each member has gone on to front her own project. Bassist/vocalist Sarah Benn rocks Shivering Timbers with her husband Jayson; Laurie Michelle Caner is the main vocalist and songwriter in Hey Mavis, the band she formed with HER husband, violinist Ed Caner. And multi-instrumentalist Jen Maurer leads zydeco party ensemble Mo’Mojo. This is one band whose breakup turned out to be an incredible plus for the local music scene, creating three of its best bands.
But for one night, the three women will revisit the sweet harmonies that made the Rhondas so beloved. They’ll perform at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall as part of its Voices in the Valley series.
Admission is $10 in advance, $15 day of show. We would advise not waiting to get your ticket.
