Just in case having a world-class orchestra in your backyard isn’t enough for you, Cleveland will be enjoying a one-night visit from another, the San Francisco Symphony, whose formation actually predates the Cleveland Orchestra’s by seven years.
While the local orchestra is out of town, the west coasters will be taking the stage at Severance Hall. On the podium will be its music director for nearly 20 years, Michael Tilson Thomas, who’s been credited with transforming it into an ensemble that could go toe-to-toe with our own.
Joining them will be Israeli violin star Gil Shaham who has worked with Tilson Thomas since launching his professional career in the late ’80s. He’s joni them for Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5. The program also includes Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1, Samuel Adams’ Drift and Providence, and Ravel’s Suite from Daphnis and Chloé.
Tickets are $49-$162.
