The @ClevelandGuitar Society Presents Guitar-and-Flute Cavatina Duo

Cavatina

Sat 11/15 @ 7:30PM

The Cavatina Duo is made up of two musicians from very different backgrounds. Flutist Eugenia Moliner is from Spain; guitarist Denis Azabagic is from Bosnia. Now married and based in Chicago, where they are on the faculty at Roosevelt University, they bring passion and energy to their playing while retaining the subtly and delicacy inherent in their instruments. And they’re worked with many contemporary composers to create new music for that combination of instruments to expand their repertoire.

They’ll be in town to perform at Plymouth Church UCC in Shaker Heights as part of the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society’s international Series. Their program will combine old and new, and a variety of style when they play Bach’s Sonata in C major for flute and continuo, Towards the Sea by 20th-century composer Toru Takemitsu, Three Balkan pieces by Clarice Assad commisoned by the duo, Alan Thomas’s Out of Africa, and Astor Piazzolla’s Adiós Nonino, and Fernando Sor’s Variations on “O Cara armonia” from Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

Tickets are $25.
