How committed is New Orleans trio Yojimbo to having fun onstage? You’ll find them online at yojimbofun.com. They channel their freewheeling, bouncing-off-the-walls energy into odd but infectious tunes driven by their unusual instrumentation — Doc Sharp on keyboards, Adam Gertner on drums and Carly Meyers fronting the band brandishing her trombone.

You won’t find a lot of typical New Orleans sounds in their music, although there’s clearly an affection for jazz and soul in a tune like “Jeans, I Love You” and the slinky, organ-driven pop of  “Gator Eye,” both from their new album Ghost Birthdays. The band cites influences like Sonic Youth, the Melvins, the Butthole Surfers and Cibo Matto rather than the Meters, Allen Tousssaint or the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. And you can clearly hear the influence of Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon in Meyers’ sly, slippery vocals.

The group plays a free show at the Beachland Tavern that should considerably enliven a post-holiday winter Monday evening.
