If you are a local acoustic musician or singer/songwriter, you owe it to yourself to get involved with Folknet, the venerable Cleveland organization to promote traditional and acoustic music that has become active again in the last year after a period off the radar. The group sponsors shows, organizes showcases and presents open mics like the one Folknet vice president Mallory SanMarco hosts on the first Thursday of each month at Loganberry Books on Larchmere Avenue.

Now they’ve announced a second one, which kicks off this month. It’s great for all you early-to-bed folks because it’s on a Sunday afternoon. It takes place at the Stone Oven Bakery in Cleveland Heights (which means you’re going to want to bring money for some of those delicious treats they sell). Rick Szekleyi is the host. Come at 2:30 to sign up to play; music starts at 3. It’s free.

And consider joining Folknet or even getting active — they are looking for board members for the upcoming year. Go to their website for more information.
