Second Annual Heights Music Hop More Than Doubles In Size

Last year’s first annual Heights Music Hop, on Lee Road in Cleveland Heights, was perfection. Gorgeous fall weather made it a perfect evening for hopping from business to business, catching the jazz combos, rock bands, and singer/songwriters playing in places like Mitchell’s Chocolates and Stone Oven Bakery that don’t normally have music.

Let’s hope for another evening like that because the second annual Heights Music Hop will feature more than twice as many bands and double the number of venues with more territory to cover. (From the library on the south to the Bottlehouse on the north it’s about six blocks).

Some bands are back from last year, like the classic rock-influenced Commonwealth, pensive folker rockers Oldboy, bluesy folksinger Tom Evanchuck, old-time music ensemble the Spyder Stompers, and Akron’s instrumental soul band the Admirables.

There are some first-timers too, obviously. A few to look out for: hard-hitting bluesy rockers Scarlet & the Harlots featuring the powerful vocals of Susan Fletcher; By Light We Loom, the new band from the founders of the now-defunct Bethesda, which headlined last year; girlie-voiced singer/songwriter Ashley Brooke Toussant who recently released a new record; hip hop/soul ensemble Muamin Collective; intense an versatile rock ’n’ roll singer/songwriter Morgan Mecaskey; comedic cabaret performer Miss Alexandra Huntington; Americana ensemble Maura Rogers & the Bellows; Great American Songbook interpreter Harry Bacharach; and Neon Don & Eva from legendary ’80s Cleveland band the Generators.

So grab the schedule off the website and keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

The event is free, exept for the after party at the Bottlehouse featuring the Commonwealth. That’s a $5 admission.
