New Jazz Venue @BluJazzAkron Celebrates Its Grand Opening

BluJazz

Fri 10/24 @ 7 & 9PM

Sat 10/25 @ 7:30 & 9:30PM

With the grand opening of Blu Jazz, downtown Akron has a new live music venue that caters to those looking for a little sophistication in their night out.

The room is designed for the presentation of jazz, and it’s already got a packed schedule featuring some of the cream of the area’s jazz musicians every weekend. Kicking it off on grand opening night will be one of the younger players to emerge from the area’s jazz scene, Akron’s own Josh Rzepka, an up-and-coming trumpet player who is now based in Chicago but maintains ties to his hometown.

He’ll be joined by four other outstanding area musicians: pianist Theron Brown, guitarist Dan Wilson, bassist Dan Pappalardo, and drummer Jonathan Suntken.

Located in an 1870s building, Blu Jazz will offer a menu of small plates and tapas, signature cocktails, along with quality beers and wines, and a jazz photography and memorabilia gallery. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to dress up in style, which you will definitely want to do for its second night when Ernie Krivda & the Jazz All Stars pay tribute to Frank Sinatra and the Swingin’ Years.

Admission is $15 each night and you can pre-order your tickets at the Blu Jazz website.

In the weeks ahead, you can look forward to hearing such area performers as pianist Joe Hunter, vocalist Helen Welch, gypsy jazz ensemble Moustache Yourself, and Sammy DeLeon and his Latin jazz sextet as well as occasional touring artists.
