Cool Cleveland columnist Mansfield Frazier is a man of ideas as well as opinions. He had the big idea to turn a bighted city lot into a vineyard. And four years ago, he and a team of workers planted grapevines at an unlikely location at the corner of East 66th and Hough, with the goal of eventually launching a winery.

He then had another big idea. He looked around at the sagging, condemned houses in the neighborhood and envisioned crops growing in what was once their basements.

Now the Vineyards of Chateau Hough have become the Vineyards and Biocellar of Chateau Hough. The biocellar concept basically builds a greenhouse over an area sunk into the ground, utilizing the insulating qualities of the earth to retain heat. He’s been developing this idea for a couple of years, and he’s now ready to show people around at his work in progress. Come on down and have a look.
