Motown The Musical @PlayhouseSquare for a Two-Week Run

Motown

Fri 10/3-19

Calling a show Motown the Musical seems redundant. How are you going to tell the story of the legendary Detroit-based R&B record label without music? Motown hits were ubiquitous for a decade, starting in the early ’60s and stretching into the ’70s when the label produced its last great superstar Michael Jackson. With dozens of songs that EVERYBODY knows, you can easily fill the show’s nearly three-hour running time.

Don’t expect an expose though; the show’s book was written by Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr. Just come to enjoy the music. And a cast of energetic kids filling the roles of such stars as Diana Ross & the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, and the Jackson 5. The touring company settles into PlayhouseSquare’s State Theatre for a two-week run.

Tickets are $10-$100.
