Hubb’s Groove have been kicking around town for nearly two decades, first as Moments Notice and now under the current name, playing smooth soul and R&B. The four members are versatile R&B and jazz musicians who’ve played with a variety of big-name artists like Pieces of a Dream, Babyface, and Toni Braxton when they aren’t performing together.
For their show at Nighttown, they’ll be joined by vocalist Steve Fowler to perform selections associated with ’70s mellow soul singer/composer Donny Hathaway. Hathaway was known for frequently teaming with the even mellower Roberta Flack, producing his biggest hits “The Closer I Get To You” and “Where Is the Love.” They were both top 5 pop hits that had endless afterlife on those “Quiet Storm” radio shows where languid love songs flourished, and odds are good hear them at the Nighttown.
Tickets are $20.
