WRUW Studio-A-Rama Announces Lineup

Sat 9/6 @ noon-midnight

Cleveland indie rockers always look forward to WRUW 91.1FM’s annual Studio-A-Rama, now in its 33rd year.

Each fall, the Case Western Reserve radio station presents the all-day/all-evening showcase in the courtyard behind the Mather Building, where the station’s studios are located. It books a headliner or two, and then provides a bunch of opening slots for local and regional bands who submit to play.

This year, the headliners will bring a lot of estrogen to the stage — a great thing in the still-too-malecentric rock scene.

Bleached, a post-punk band from Los Angeles, is fronted by a pair of sisters. And Minneapolis’ Tacocat, who are punk pop in a good way, describing themselves as “The Go-Gos meet the Monkees,” features three woman and one lone man.

Again, as in recent years, there’s an exceptionally strong lineup of locals, with some fairly new bands and some oldies but goodies.

Punk rockers Kill the Hippies have been around 20 years, and New Planet Trampoline, one of the early Davenport Collective bands, have recently regrouped. Blackgrass Baptism, Black Puddle Noise, Bwak Dwagon, Archie & the Bunker, Cruelster and Murderedman are all newer to the scene (Blackgrass Baptism just formed last year). Together, producing varieties of noisy and aggressive rock, they’ll turn the Mather Courtyard into an outdoor version of Now That’s Class. And Likenesses are brand new — only a year old — but have quickly become one of everyone’s favorite bands with their timeless, beautifully sculpted rock.

Studio-A-Rama is a free event; come and go as you please. Bring blankets, picnics, your dog or cat, refreshments NOT in glass bottles. But will there be food trucks, you ask? Yes.

The entire show is broadcast on WRUW. But you’ll want to be there.
