Vocal Power & @CleveOrchestra’s Take On Carmina Burana

Sat 8/23 @ 8PM

Twentieth-century German composer Carl Orff is known primarily — or almost entirely — for his lusty cantata Carmina Burana, composed in the mid 1930s. Based on a group of medieval poems, primarily in Latin, it adopts a kind of “seize the day” attitude as it meditates on the fleetingness of life and grabbing its pleasures — sex, drinking, gambling — while you can.  And when the Cleveland Orchestra performs it this week, it’ll feature a children’s chorus!

Andrews Grams will conduct the piece at Blossom Music Center, where the orchestra will be joined by soprano Nadine Sierra (pictured), tenor Christopher Pfund, and baritone Brian Mulligan (all making their Blossom debuts, Sierra and Mulligan performing for the first time with the Cleveland Orchestra), the Blossom Festival Chorus, and the Cleveland Orchestra Children’s Chorus.

The program will be rounded out by Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor and Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.

Tickets are $23-$85.
