Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials Stop @MusicBoxCle

Sun 8/24 @ 7:30PM

Unlike all those bluesmen who made the journey from the south to the blues mecca of Chicago, singer/guitarist Lil Ed Williams was born in Chicago and grew up hanging out in the city’s web of neighborhood blues joints. So he’s learned as much about grabbing an audience as about singing and playing the blues.

He’s been playing with the same guys for years too, including bassist James “Pookie” Young (40 years), his half brother, whom he’s been playing with since they were in their teens 40-plus years ago, and guitarist Mike Garrett and drummer Kelly Littleton, who have been with him since the late ’80s. Together they comprise Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials.

Since 1989, he’s released seven albums on Alligator Records, the Chicago-based label that is the home of most of the top contemporary blues acts.

The group will bring its smokin’ hot show to the Music Box Supper Club.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.
