Violinist Midori Goto is so well known in international classical music circles that, like Madonna and Cher, she usually goes by a single name.
A former child prodigy who made her concert debut at the age of 11 with the New York Philharmonic, the 42-year-old musician has since racked up an lengthy list of recordings, concert tours, recitals, orchestra appearances, and even a couple of psychology degrees on the side. She’s also a dedicated teacher who has been on the faculty of several respected music schools and an activist in philanthropic work bringing music to children.
She’s touching down in Cleveland at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium with her 1734 Guarnerius del Gesù “ex-Huberman” violin, and pianist/accompanist Özgür Aydin, as part of its Master of the Violin series. She is undeniably that.
Her program there will include Debussy’s Sonata in G minor, Shostakovich’s Sonata, Op. 134, Beethoven’s Sonata No, 10 in G major, and Schubert’s Rondo brilliant in B minor.
Tickets are $41-$54.
